The Gatsby Benchmarks

The Gatsby benchmarks are a set of eight guidelines that aim to provide a framework for good careers education and guidance in schools. These benchmarks were developed by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation and are widely recognized as a benchmark for excellence in careers education.

The eight Gatsby benchmarks of Good Career Guidance are:

  1. A stable careers programme

  2. Learning from career and labour market information

  3. Addressing the needs of each pupil

  4. Linking curriculum learning to careers

  5. Encounters with employers and employees

  6. Experiences of workplaces

  7. Encounters with further and higher education

  8. Personal guidance

By implementing these benchmarks, schools can ensure that their students receive a comprehensive and effective careers education that prepares them for future careers and employment. The Gatsby benchmarks have become an important reference point for schools and colleges in the UK, helping to ensure that all young people receive high-quality careers education and guidance.
